To Disappear Poem by Terry Mulert

To Disappear

We pretend to exist
under a wild fire of stars

on our backs in the grass
of a cottonwood forest
where we wait for the night

a river is near
when the moon appears
it is you

we point and laugh
intoxicated by the musty
darkness

no one knows we are here
and we feel lucky and alive.
