To Forget Poem by Samantha McKinnon

To Forget

I would give anything to forget.
Forget the feeling
Of your every word
Dancing through my ears and mind, relentlessly.
Forget the way
The warmth of your hands
Contrasted so greatly
With the coldness of your eyes and soul,
And forget the way
They all fell upon me far too often.
Forget all the ways you put me down
Even further into the ground.
I would give anything to forget
The fear of you
And others
And trust
And the fear of love.
But above all else,
I wish I could forget
How it felt
Having betrayal
Crawling inside of me
And covering my skin,
Consuming me.
I wish I could forget
That betrayal
Was made of you.
