To Love You Is To Walk The Ocean Poem by Md. Sumon Chowdhury

To Love You Is To Walk The Ocean

To love you is not to get soaked,
To love you is to sink a little every day,
Yet pretending not to sink!

You are always the one on the shore,
Standing safely,
Do you not long to hear the sound of my waves?
You fail to understand—
Each wave in me,
Breaking itself while trying to touch you!

I never wanted to be the ocean,
I just wanted you,
To dip your feet in and feel,
How cold I am,
And how fierce my current can be!

You left, and you were right to do so,
For no one loves the ocean forever,
Just for a certain time—
Until the water touches the knees
And the heart grows heavy.

You are still a dry-footed soul,
While I slowly disappear beneath the water.
Yet I pretend not to sink,
As if one day you might return,
And I'll still have a drop of water left for you.
