Today - Poem by Shikha Gupta
You know you're all wrong when your first thought for the day
Makes you feel like it could be your last
And that would be lovely too were it not for the million that were to follow.
And while you try to clear your head of all the shit
Doughty croons over twenty-seven Jennifers
And you wish you could go on like this forever
And lose the world somewhere along the way like a bus ticket to some place that just happened to fall out of your pocket.
And you wonder where you went wrong
(because wondering would create the impression of not knowing) .
To go back now would be close to impossible
And you wish you could just get a second chance
To start all over again and set everything right;
A chance to make a point,
'cause you've been so busy trying to prove shit to everyone that you just happened to forget about yourself,
And you walk around in circles hoping it'll be different this time around
But nothing ever seems to change - Not for the better at least
And you wonder if any of it is even worth it
And whether you've ever lost anything
You wish you could call someone just to make sure
But few people are neurotic at six a.m.
And maybe you just imagined having had all the stuff in the first place
And if you had just imagined it
It can't really hurt to lose nothing.
Or so they would have you believe.
