Today Poem by Joe Fraccalvieri

Today

Will I look at today as if it were made
especially for me
Or will I put it away
and hide from the thought
that this could be the very last day
my eyes will ever see

Will I treat today with dignity-- With integrity
to use it in a way it was intended to be
Or will I brush it aside--
and pray that another
comes along as my guide

Will I meet this day as though it may be
a stepping stone to eternity
Will I choose my actions carefully--
and my behavior be considered humble
Or will the steps I take
be those of uncertainty
that would possibly cause me to stumble

Will I greet today with humor--
grace-- and wonder…
Or with anger… Or even rage
Will I tear this day asunder
as one might tear a page

Or will I use it wisely
and profit from its worth...
Because this day will be the only day
that is here… Today… On earth
