Today Poem by Chidiebere Annabel Ilo

Today

Today I Heard You
Who are you?
You are something that is me, I know now.
Why did we make that choice?
Why did I choose this?

Today you showed an arm.
Do you? Do you show me your arm every day?
Oh, my ever-true companion, how long have I neglected you?
Have I ever loved you? Ever looked at you long enough to see you?

Today I know you.
You sound—no, you feel—yes, you are different.
The lost sheep, who is home.
The thing in nothingness.
You live in death.

Today I see you.
There you go again, into the silence.
Are you there, you ever-present one?
Aha, there you are. There you always are.
