Today Day Two Poem by sheeba balan

Today Day Two

life gave
Life gave me consistency
Mother busies herself in the kitchen
Her crinkled muslin saree
I know the touch in my heart
I know it's smell
My father comes to feel my temples
His aged strong hands
they always feel sandpaper in gentleness
Lucas drools and licks parts of me in happiness
The girls sit chattering in the sunshine
The events and smells remain etched
I do not want to be orphaned in the burial ground amongst
devils who play night games.
