Today I Forgive Poem by Charles Bernabi

Today I Forgive

I was born, and raised without love,
If there ever was love show it now.
I was torn in half and kindness I don't remember,
If there ever was kindness show it now.

Some pushed my face hard in the dirt,
Would they ever apologise to me?
Others tormented savagely the way I looked,
Could they see the damage they'd done?

You think you may be different,
But inside we're all the same.
'Cause I walk strange you've a right to taunt me,
If just you realised I'm uniquely made that way.

I was born unlike you if you cared to see,
As diverse as a human being I could be.
Nary a thought to hate, or hurt without purpose,
Yet you've spread your rage I've felt it bitterly.

Does it bother you when I retaliate?
Cut you down in return.
Are you offended to see me chasing gold?
When you yourself still have no dream.

I was born poor; we both arrived the same,
Tho' you tormented me to no end.
But I, the very likeness of you escaped the pain,
Like a bird I soared high into the euphoric sky.

So you may have crushed me a little,
With ugly truths, I certainly felt it.
The sting of reality surely propelled me forth,
Thus I danced all the way to paradise.

Up high I fly, far away from a past of pain,
I'm a child of despair unbroken by you.
Into the light I traverse, leaving yesterday behind,
The future so awaits me and I shall go there.

You may have once been the spider,
But now, like it will, I'll bite back.
However, no hate lies in me for a past wronged,
If we were enemies then today I forgive.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Holding grudges for a past wronged should not be carried into your future.
