Together Poem by Lacey Kueper

Together

On a summer day,
I watched you in a field,
your little brother in tow.
You where just a colt,
I was just a girl,
your mane was as wild,
as my little curls.
No one would have known,
how we would grow,
to meet the world together,
the paths that we would sow.
There where plenty of times,
where we would take a fall,
but we'd get right back together,
we where partners after all.
Then it was a fantasy,
every leaf and flower beautiful,
now the world is colorless,
everything logical.
We used to run like wild things,
dodging monsters in the trees,
pretending we where warriors,
but I knew you wouldn leave me.
Even in my teen years,
when I was expected to go on dates,
any hour I came home,
you'd be waiting at the gate.
When things happen later,
the world full of goodbyes,
you would stand solid,
when I came to you to cry.
I'm now here without you,
and it all seems so wrong,
but one day we'll be together,
it shouldn't be so long..
