Torn Apart Poem by john mcleish

Torn Apart

father was an ulster man
chanted U D A
mother was a catholic
slave o' popery

many drunking fights we heard
huddled in oor beds
'yur a filthy fenian'
his face a' raging red

'yur mother was a prostitute'
mum retaliates
'and yur a dirty Proddy
fay the Overgate'

Fall's Road in the living room
a family torn apart
like a Londonderry fire fight
burning in their heart

noo i've grown te be a man
in Siam and Khmer
and as i look i see the same
Troubles everywhere
