Torn Kite Poem by Aminath Neena

Torn Kite

Like two diligent travelers
We met on the way
Rested for a while
Under the shade
Of the giant umbrella
Fell asleep together
And in that state
Of oblivion, we surpassed
The distance between us
So that my head lay
On the crook of your shoulder
And your arms
Enfolded tightly around
My aching body,
Comforting blend
And now, refreshed
We move slowly ahead
On different quests
Each preoccupied
With different thoughts
To different worlds
We do belong
Although we would
Never be the same because
In that brief encounter
Of mere seconds
We did taste
The Forbidden
Fruit of passion
And drank from
The enchanting
Fountain
Of love
And now, as we come
To these cross roads
We take paths
In opposite directions
With new determination
Never to set foot
In each other’s territories
Dispatching the memories
As a beautiful dream
Of once upon a time
For, a dream is like a kite
One minute fluttering
With glory, as the apple
Of everyone’s eyes
The next second
Wandering with the wind
Forsaken and forgotten
Not even worth a second glance
Its destiny predetermined……..

To end up in garbage
