Toward Poem by Laurence Overmire

Toward

The mind of Man is evolving
In slow, deliberate process
Opening, not closing
Expanding, not retreating
More knowledge
Deeper understanding
Greater awareness

The old ideas that separate

One from another
Fall in the dust
The wind passing through the bones
No grief for the lost
A new grass rising
Roots embedded in fertile soil
To suckle in the splash of sky and rain.
