I'd kill myself
right now
but there's
no guarantee
that anybody'd
find
what I've
thus far
written
or think it
good enough
to publish
much less
worthy
of eternal life
in literary
posterity.
So it's back to the line.
Like the Irish workgangs
hammering their way west
toward Promontory Point
I lay the rails
for my trains of thought
in a desert
bordered
by
sierras
of despair.
I'll not be the one
to drive
the golden spike
as the daguerreotypes
explode
