Township Struggles Poem by Lisakhanya Shiba

Township Struggles

Skies are no longer blue as they used to
It has become blue, black and red
We hear ringing bells everywhere,
There is nothing to rejoice about.

We live in fear of the unknown
Red rain falls all the time,
South Africa is in tears,
Children's dreams are stolen,

The hope for a better tomorrow is gone
What has happened to South Africa?
Will we lose future leaders?
We hope for the storm to pass

Everyday there's a headline
About youth, friends, neighbours.
Will the skies ever clear again?
We hope for a better South Africa
