Transversing The Middle Poem by Anthony Nwosu

Transversing The Middle

One is tempted to let it out; if not the whole, then part
The shiny sunny Doha, warm and tight embrace
A little corner gets busy with the wind, twists over
Ramping up a million sand particles
Dates! Sweet dates
If I chose the day, the night was glam.

The thobe on heads, the flow on dress
The large spaces of Al-Khor seated close to a sprouting Lusail
Frontiers of the mechanised industrial area, clusters and regards
Nothing screams Doha! like Doha.

Wads of riyals in hand, Souk waqif
Trading paperless for the beu auty of the notes
Fancy like a rooftop restaurant, a Cresent moon and a soft mixture.
How I remember, a romance behind closed doors
The gutra and abaya.

The peace and quiet hits hard
Sharp and piercing like the horns of the Arabian Oryx
Waters lived in deserts
The dhow cruise, smooth sails across Al-Bidda
The Legtaifiya class and pass, stare and glare
Sea lavender in its delicate state.

The love of a metropolitan city
A hundred nationalities served with Majboos
Fine dine, robust and meaty
It's all yours, waiting to choose
Strong and gritty
A city of winners with nothing to loose.
