Trapped (In Mind Only) Poem by douglas lewis

Trapped (In Mind Only)

Rating: 4.5

I am in a tunnel.
A bonnet clad
In cupping grey.
But ten steps in
Black echoes
Pop and scurry
Back along the walls,
A shadow wisp of tail
Against my legs.
Claustrophobic lungs
Burst and flood
The bottom of my cage.
The gnawing doubts
Of sunless thoughts,
Dank and incomplete.

Dark and powerful. I really like the ending as well, it is quite striking. Nicely written.
