Treasure Trove Poem by Shipra Agarwal

Treasure Trove

They called us wild, loners, crazy
we were all that and more,
we were dauntless and free.
We are still all those things, You and I,
but we are no longer 'WE'.

It's not just the distance that separates us now,
It's also the years, the choices, the faces.
And yet, all I have to do is close my eyes
to hear two eighteen-year olds singing
'No apaguez la luz' on a blue 'Born Wild' scooty...

Such is the treasure trove of memory
The farther away you walk, the clearer its colors become.
And from where I stand tonight,
I see a girl who just wanted 'an equal music'
I see a woman who got surprised pleasantly.
