Trees! Poem by Robert Green

Trees!

Windswept!
Bent against natures force,
Bowing forward
Stark and leafless.

Groaning, creaking!
As age and sharp winds take their toll
Age rings speak
Of years stood tall.

Stoned walls
Protect sheep
On wild hills
As trees pull against their roots.

Holding for long
Against the elements
Waiting on Spring
Again to be strong.
