A wisp of white wind
Rolls greedily between
The naked army of
Maple trees-
Silent on a hill.
They murmur weakly-
'We’ve nothing
Left to give you..
No more slender leaves
Or little sparrows…
Gone are the tart,
Crimson apples
Of jubilant spring….
Gone are the smiling pine cones
We sent to Earth as gifts…
Not a single shade
Of anything but
Death remains,
A canopy
Of loneliness’
Formed of
Brittle, juxtaposed branch…
Our hearts are frost
That pulsate desolate pain.
Nothing is left but nothing..”
The winter wind left
With it's nothing
And was satisfied.
