Trepidation Poem by Theo Drake

Trepidation

a burning sensation
a sense of unease
some have said fireworks
while others have said fleas
it rises and crawls
and leaves some appalled
as it awakens a monster
that no man has called

bubbling up
and no longer peripheral
it strikes out with pride
yet leaves a proud man to crawl
it shakes out the shadows
and all that was hidden
to present to the world
your secrets forbidden

how could I stumble
how could I crawl
my proud self has shaken
and tumbled from tall
I can no longer withhold
that which is within
from being torn down
and shaved thin

I'm curling up
how couldn't I cry
'my head is exploding'
and 'I want to die'
as the thoughts they expand
and blow up my mind
'my secrets were hidden,
and why couldn't you hide? '
