Tricky Maze Poem by Patrick Salkeld

Tricky Maze

Rating: 3.0

Searching
Every nook and cranny
Of that tricky maze
Called love

So tired, my hips alternate steps
So frustrated, my heart pushes me

The sound of your heartbeat
My only navigation
Thumping my eardrums
The closer i draw near

So tired, my back straightens taller
So frustrated, my heart pushes me

A long stretch approaches
Another dead end?
Another wrong turn?
My head pounding
From the banging of your heart
Realization, i must be close

So tired, my legs break into a sprint
So frustrated, my heart pushes me

The walls open up into
A large heart-shaped doorless room
You look around
Expecting a woman to be near
No one in sight

All this way I've come
For nothing
My soulmate doesn't exist
But still a heartbeat
Quiet sobs come from the corner
A dark-haired girl is crying
Into her knees

'You must be my soulmate'
Big puffy blue eyes
Look up at me, glinting,
She smiles and stands
Before we embrace in a kiss
Of relief, love, passion
