Trying To Be Happy Again Poem by Lauren Teague

Trying To Be Happy Again

We've been beaten, bruised and broken,
ALL of our life.

We've been lonely, scared and depressed,
More days then we WANT to be.

We've been happy, excited and surprised,
If only we could be like this MORE OFTEN.

We can't always have what we want,
Life just isn't FAIR.

We can't go anywhere we want,
But we can DREAM of where we'd like to go.

Some people have more then others,
It's ALWAYS been like this.

There are murders, homisides and suicides,
That will NEVER end.

There are gangs, junkies, and hookers,
That's THEIR life. Not mine.

We have to make the decisions for what we do.
How OUR life will turn out to be.
Only the LUCKY will have their things handed to them.
We have to EARN it.
You can't always blame OTHERS for your actions.
It's time you become an ADULT and stop acting like children.

It's up to us to HEAL the broken, lonely, and scared.
ACCEPT our life and the things we have and the places we go.
STOP the murders, homisides, and suicides
To try and be HAPPY again.
