Turning Over A New Leaf Poem by Mary Champion

Turning Over A New Leaf

We ain't the worst, we ain't the best,
but no more evil than the rest.

Self-hatred cannot rectify
the bad things done in years gone by.

We can't undo the wrongs we've done.
We can't unfire the killer's gun.

The only thing Mankind can do
to build this battered world anew,

is learn from all our past misdeeds,
the politics and bloody creeds

we used to justify our crimes,
and vow to strive for better times,

to build a new world if we can -
a world that values ev'ry man.
