Twice Poem by Jane Margerison

Twice

Her subtle Changes
began quite slow...
Aware of this,
She lived a 'Show'...

Others didn't Recognize
The Sparkle fading from Her Eyes

Her Resistance...
Denial..
Secret Fears...
How Long had She been living 'Here' (?)

'Where's Daddy? '
(Her frequent question now...)
His death, some 20 years ago...

'And Mum & Dad,
They're both gone too...? ! '

My Responses
Thoughtful...
Careful...
True...

For, How on Earth
do you tell your Mother...
'I'm your Daughter
and 'Him(?) '...
My Brother...'

Her Days now Fleeting Snippets...
Blurs...
('How, God...
How could this
have claimed HER...? ! ')

She spent her Life
on other's Needs...
Selfless..
Countless...
Tireless Deeds...

Her Essence...
Scent...
Her Heart of Gold...
All Remain
as She Grows Old...

Lo' the Bittersweetness...
The Cruelest price...
We lose not Once...

We'll lose Her Twice 💔
