Twin Sister Poem by Ayokunle Adeleye

Twin Sister

In the Lecture Theatre I sat
Having been captivated by her hair
Well, I had to approach and chat
Since I didn't want to just sit and stare

So I went from behind to beside
Fervently hoping she would not object
In her I was already willing to confide
If me, she would not reject

Myself I proceeded to introduce:
Her reflex unwillingness to defuse
And sooner or later garrulous I became
'She had looked familiar, ' I still claim!

Thence experiences were shared
Even lifestyles we dared to compare!
Little wonder secrecy was pared:
Each had attempted suicide when no one seemed to care!

I walked her home after the lecture-
Her harmlessness being a natural conjecture.
And after that day we had other treks-
Treks that made my girlfriend vex

Soon I began to call her Twin Sist...er:
She was too special to remain a friend
Once we had a brush of lips and I almost kissed her
But i didn't, not even when we later shared a bed!
