TWO GODS Poem by Barbara Korun

TWO GODS

I.

that god comes
heavy and huge
shoved so far
from heaven
powerful angel
an angel with a spear
whispering in my ear
he has bent over me, shining
and he whispers to me

all this way
so many years squandered
lost destroyed
all you have is this moment
this alone
when I whisper to you
you are nothing nothing
forgettable dust
and I love you
I love you

angel
angel with a spear
pierces
my burning heart

II.

this god
dwells in the dark
he comes from below
from within
from the golden robes of icons
from dark fissures
he comes pulsing
lit up
by candles
thin as a hair

this god
dwells in holy
underground rivers
in fleeting voices
that with faith
rise
directly
into the heavens

with a delicate breath
with the softest breeze
he speaks to me
