Two Little Dickey Birds Poem by Aminath Neena

Two Little Dickey Birds

A pair of cardinals sat on a hedge
One with bright red plumage
While the other in a shade of grey
Hopelessly in love, ready to sway
Said the male bird to the female
“I shall make a home for you and me
And Feed you nuts and grains all day
When the little ones arrive one day
I shall guard and protect our territory
And make a whole new life and sanctuary”

Gazing in to the eyes of her mate
Replied the female bird to the male
“Making a home is not an easy quest
It requires a lot of hardships without rest
Collecting twigs may damage your beak
You do need to climb mountains so steep
Besides, we may face a turbulent storm
Predators may harm our young unborn
And Lightening may destroy our sweet nest”
Eyes shining with adoration for her, he said

“Hardships no matter, with love in your heart
With trust, the beacon of joy will never depart
With love in your soul, a storm will be a cool breeze
With faith, lofty mountains appear as dusty haze
With love, lightening changes into fragrant roses,
My beak will be healed in time, with your sweet kisses
For predators, I shall use the flame of love as barricade
Which, will burn all evil sources and harmful facade
Devote my life I shall, to build for us, a safe haven “
With this said, beaks entwined they flew away in unison
