Two Souls Rescued Poem by Charlene Lee

Two Souls Rescued

We found each other in the dark,
Two broken souls, a single spark.
A big, brave boy who lived in fear,
Of every shadow drifting near.
He hid away from touch and sound,
While I felt anchored to the ground—
My dreams had met a sudden end,
In need of hope, in need of friend.

I saw the weight of all he'd known,
The jagged seeds that pain had sown.
Yet as I reached to bridge the space,
I found a mirror in his face.
Through quiet days and gentle light,
We led each other through the night.
With every kindness, every touch,
The world began to mean so much.

The dog who once had lost his trust,
Has shaken off the fear and dust.
He seeks the love he used to flee,
And found his home inside of me.
Now 'just a dog' is something more,
A wagging tail beside the door—
My best friend, chasing after balls,
The one who answers when I call.

We rescued one another then,
And learned to start our lives again.
