Two Tongues. Poem by Tor Magnor Solvang

Two Tongues.

Words like rivers, flowing free,
Many tongues for you and me.
French and Swahili, German too,
A world of sounds, both old and new.

But some folks speak another way,
A hidden meaning, day by day.
Two tongues they have, it's said with shame,
Playing a tricky, double game.

Leaders rise in every land,
With power held within their hand.
They promise truth, and guide the way,
But two tongues speak, what do they say?

To one they smile, a friendly face,
To others, plot in secret place.
Words of peace, a gentle sound,
But bitter deals are quickly bound.

The truth gets lost, the trust is gone,
A web of lies, that lingers on.
One voice they show, one voice they hide,
Honesty lost, with nowhere to abide.

So listen close, and watch with care,
For those who speak beyond compare.
Let truth prevail, a shining light,
And banish darkness, day and night.
