Two Women Poem by Mary Champion

Two Women

I have known these women,
two women from opposite sides of the earth -

two women -
victims of patriarchy
and of empire.
Two women
brutally beaten
by fathers they loved with a passion.

Two women who felt
an absence of maternal love.

Two women -
even in their eighth decade of this life,
still scarred by misplaced
and misunderstood love.

Two women who said:
'I love my Daddy,
but my Mummy does not love me.'
