Underclass Poem by Mary Champion

Underclass

Observe them -
dull eyed,
careworn,
tossed in a stream of acidic hopelessness
that slowly erodes their humanity.
Down to their last cent,
staggering on their last faltering legs,
despised, dismissed and discarded
for the crime of being poor.
