Understanding Us Poem by Kara Nyx

Understanding Us

A lonely life that didn't feel like one,
Accustomed to dullness and days void of fun.
Enters a sun shining so bright,
Turning my world upside down overnight.

A person so different from me,
Yet something about her made me feel free.
I wanted to share everything together,
To cherish this bond, now and forever.

But a sun does not shine just for one soul;
In its presence, no one will ever feel cold.
She did not shine solely for me;
She was a source of warmth for all, you see.

I wanted it all for myself,
To bask in her light, just the two of us.
How could I ask for her rays to remain,
When they're meant to shine for all the same?

I knew I couldn't own her light,
Yet sharing felt hard; it never felt right.
Why am I like this?
When did I start to become so selfish?

A thousand thoughts ran wild in my head,
How did I ever find myself in her thread?
What drew her near, what made her stay,
What made her choose me along the way?

I can't quite fathom her reasons, you see,
A bright star in the sky, while I stand like a tree.
What am I to her in this bond that we share?
What makes me question my place everywhere?

Was I enough to hold her gaze,
Or am I just another star in the endless haze?
So I'll wander this path with her light at my side,
Accepting the questions, the fears I can't hide.

Though questions remain, and the path feels unclear,
I'll treasure this bond and hold it dear.
