Undying Love Poem by Mary Champion

Undying Love

1910: we planned one night together;
sweet Sunday night whose shackles I can't shed.
How could I have guessed that I would never
take another lover to my bed?
Flying reckless, on the wings of passion -
as if we shared eternity to love,
we should have known that we could never fashion
the flawless future we were dreaming of.
We gave our all, in giving up on reason.
Blinded by our hunger, we refused to see
forbidden fruit is lethal when it's eaten
by fools made mad by love like you and me.
Reality built barriers between us
and only perfect gnosis can redeem us.
