Unfamiliar Poem by Erika Wingo

Unfamiliar

What is this 'change'
That's taking place
Between us
Scraping at the meaning
Of who we are together
Stretching the silence
To last longer than ever
Pulling apart
What used to be one
While everything becomes so unfamiliar
From the way it once was

What is this 'space'
That's emerged
And lodged itself
Between us
Absorbing the sunlight
Until there is only frost
Building a bridge
Too unstable to cross
While making us wary,
Our attitude's vary
Until all things familiar
Are lost
