Unfinished Business Poem by Ayandare Mayowa

Unfinished Business

Rating: 4.0

Head on pillow, eyes shut in its socket,
Wanting to sleep, but wouldn’t, couldn’t,
For my mind will not be cajoled, bribed.
In my belly wastes,
Excited butterflies and informed worms,
Enlightened emotions and investigating thoughts,
Whispering in conniving and conspiring tone,
An impromptu meeting without my consent told.
They protested and insist,
Insist I must tell you before I am allowed sleep,
Tell... tell you... that...
Okay, tell you how I feel about you,
Yes.
And that you deserve to know;
That you are constantly on my mind,
You hold the magic switch to my pressures and pleasure,
Without you in my life as you have seen, my members will go on strike,
Even as I speak, they carry placards, setting the stage and mic.
And that you have to know I lied,
Was returning no text book earlier today,
It is because of you I hang around the bay,
In fact, no uncle of mine stays around your place,
I come there for me, for you,
My business, unfinished business.
I am in love with your thoughts, talk and walk,
Your thoughts and talk is deep and smooth,
Your walk graceful and consistent,
Always in conformity to your talk.
I love your smile and your mind,
Your smile fascinates me,
Your mind intrigues, challenge and enlightens me.
These much the worms and cohorts know,
Hence, the coup.
But these, they don’t
In my dreams,
You hastily said I do,
So did me too.
In my dreams,
Saw you cooking the meals and laying the beds,
In my dreams,
You collected my brief case, gave me a kiss,
In my dreams,
Encouraging me, training our kids.
To me,
Synonym of wife will be your first name,
Another name for mother, your middle name,
You are my cover girl for a virtuous lady,
Hence;
I humbly ask,
Will you please
Allow my dreams come true?
And to you, I promise,
Undiluted love and undying care,
Unlimited joy and marital bliss,
Goodness and peace,
Shall not be denied you.
Yes! I told her
Busy-bodies, allow me sleep
No?
Oh no, I only wrote it on paper.
