Unmerciful Time Poem by Mary Champion

Unmerciful Time

Time does not bring relief - that was a lie.
my reservoir of tears may have run dry
but still I feel the pain of our good-bye.

They took my hand and said 'Do not despair.
God never sends us more than we can bear.'
But broken hearts aren't easy to repair.

Their facile words I know, were kindly meant,
commiseration was their sole intent.
But my allotted grieving is not spent.

Time has not healed me yet, though it is years
since first I shed those hot and angry tears.
How many more until relief appears?
