Until There's None Poem by Richard Trembath

Until There's None

It's hard to realise how much there was
Until there's none:
Conversation turned to silence.
Mere presence to aloneness.
Thoughts unshared.

To wake to greet the hollow day
And search for one good reason
To embrace it,
To become involved.
Not every day, but most.

To cast my mind back to
The happy times when you were here.
No need to speak, just simply 'be' -
Enraptured by each other's presence,
Our existence shared.

But now the all-pervading silence
Overwhelms me, robs me of the will
To go about my daily life,
To be aware of anything.
Nothing, save this stone that is my heart.
