Untitled 2 Poem by Heather Devlin

Untitled 2

In this abyss of my obvious creation,
I wander quite aimlessly in search of something sacred and divine
that once was mine.
Everywhere I search the darkness follows,
even as I wander sacred hallows once occupied
(solely in my mind)
by men and beasts much greater than my solitary soul.
I find the night endearing,
quite more so as I’m nearing this nameless destination
that I wish to call my own.
And as I walk these shadows,
I imagine all I’ll soon know
once this wondrous wealth of wisdom passes to a place within me. And at long last
(alas! alas!)
I have arrived,
still quite within my mind,
at my destination that for so long I have sought.
To my eager disappointment,
I find it not within the confines of my imagined myth.
For as difficult the journey,
I got there in a hurry,
and there was no time to capture all the treasures that I sought.
With much regret I gather myself to leave,
thru much chastising from my minds reprieve.
