Unwrap Her Poem by Malory Joyce

Unwrap Her

She changed her hair and her eye shadow,
changed her lips and her clothes.
Another face she'd wish to borrow,
has no liking to her own.

Pretty dresses and black sweaters,
pale lips, mascara, and eyeliner.
The mirror tends to drive her
to become better.

Flesh and bones,
with a heart and a soul.
Stands in front of the mirror pierced and sown,
her low self-esteem does not accept a confident tone.

Pierced and sown to her low self-esteem
Keeps her surreptitious
but under this mask lies beauty underneath
so unwrap her layered clothing
unwrap her ponderous make-up
and unwrap her threads.

Unwrap her, unwrap her,
she is beautiful.
