UPSTAIRS Poem by Roland Jooris

UPSTAIRS

for R.D.K.
Lowered partly in haste,
slanting, half-open,
peering through strips of light, then
a flight of stairs leading up,
landing nowhere, then again
suddenly, something,
a bony rumour, a water drop
remembering a splash

the unforeseen
spills
messily exact
from a floor
made up higher
in its intent
