By HE Zhu Translated by East Sea Fairy
Vanillas and orchids were growing all over the clear harboring place,
and gossamers floated in the air.
She moved toward the ferry with slimness and great grace,
and her silky stocks were covered with dust dare.
He went forward to meet his loved Fair.
She looked at him while arranging her hairdo,
and they looked at each other without words but tender love and care.
The catkins of the sweeping willows the gentle breeze blew.
He was leaving for Jinling by boat and said her adieu.
He calls again and again to mind
his former friend
who is nowhere to find
beyond the mountains ranging without end.
"Where is the family residing in the red-gated house flower-shrubs-penned? "
Of this nothing he kenned.
The maturity of the plum fruits is half due.
Broken is his heart low with lovesickness which to nobody he could send.
At dusk he hears a drizzle outside the screen blocking his view.
so he let the passing spring take away his heart down with a regrettable rue.
