Vegas Bane Poem by Jason Bonhomme

Vegas Bane

Three month stay
In your outer suburbs
A throw back in time
Recollections of yesterday

Rugby league and netball aplenty
Running junkie's faces
Sports and war infected
Populace in
Mental stasis

I like
Your sultry weather
And record stores galore
Artisan quarters
Keep me in wonder
Gorgeous tall waitress
Her old world charms endure

Cultural cringe
Much in evidence
Amongst friends I know
Night creatures I meet
Why the shame?
I ask myself

Mental aberration of
Wannabe someplace else
Least the weather
Is all the more pleasant
You never know winter
Only humid torment

Golden beaches I spy
Awash with empty shells
Barbie and Ken held high
Under heady toxic spells.
