Velcro Shoes Poem by Stuart Doggett

Velcro Shoes

Deceit is the fabric of my persona,
A tongues deadly poisonous sting,
Invention hidden by spider silk,
A broken mockery of something.
But,
The hands that said they’d catch me
Got scared and ran away,
I’ve thrown myself too far out there
Into the darkness,
Into the emptiness,
Screaming soundlessly as I fall away.

My lies build bridges over the gaps
In the half-truths I told you,
As time unravels my tangled web
Into the fires,
Into the smoke,
The veracious flame devours you,
I claw at the web,
I’m stuck in my web
As veracious flame devours me too.
