Velvet Harbor Poem by Lonnie Hicks

Velvet Harbor

Rating: 2.8

Lay me down
won't you?

Open this folded heart;
read every page tonight;

Touch my shinning face
for it always gleams
in our candle light.

Breathe onto my closed eyes
the gentle wind
that loves me.

Hold my hand
in this night
transferring that love
hands do;

lay my skirt aside
flower-petal style
my blouse is milky
cloud white

and I see me
reflected in your dark eyes;
my universe begins to rise
and I
am lost inside you.

Suspend us on bedroom air
softly fluttering in time
where we sail those loving seas
and land
in the dark
velvet harbor
where we surrender
the You and I
to the We;
our names written across the sky.
