Verdict Of My Dream Poem by Ayokunle Adeleye

Verdict Of My Dream

Her much-awaited verdict
Was worse than an apartheid-upholding edict:
'You are NOT my type'
And tears from my eyes I had to wipe!

But she was the only one around
Whom I wanted;
I hoped she would be renowned
For banishing the loneliness that haunted

Yet after waiting and waiting just to see
If her 1 & ONLY I could be
Worse still came to worse
But my maiden I must not force

And having swam against the stream
It is now I give the issue a thought:
It was all a dream;
Her love I should not have sought!

For each other we now avoid
After being so close;
Between us is a void
Though we are not yet foes

Yet her falling in love with me will be a dream come true
Since my proposal did not go like a dream
From her the phrase 'in your dreams' got through
But she alone is the girl of my only recurring dream!
