Vietnam Tears Poem by kali retzler

Vietnam Tears

I stood and watched as a mother cried
when she heard her only son had died.
I watched a father try to hold back tears.
His son had only lived 19 years.
He had died thousands of miles away,
so what's there for a father to say?
He got down on his knees
and begged God
please for it not to be true.
I looked to the right,
and saw a little girl standing there.
Not understanding why
her big brother would never come home.
At school the next day,
people asked why she cried,
she looked up and replied
'im crying my brothers Vietnam tears'.
