Vision Poem by Della Hodgson James

Vision

As we stand on the threshold of the future
A crisis so pregnative of unknown fate,
While we strive to comprehend the incomprehensive
There's no room in our heart for worldly hate.
With tears, subdued sighs, and heavy hearted
Called upon to make a sacrifice, many make.
With a prayer in our hearts, for proper guidance
And benevolence toward God, for heaven's sake.

Then across our vision stalks a spectre
Arm in arm with God, a noble statue, clears,
And the courage on that brow, tis a heritage
Handed down to our people, all these years.

Abe Lincoln, who then advocated victory
Given wisdom to defy what seemed defeat,
Who said? Sacrifice is the price of freedom
Given courage, tis a dept we now mutt meet.
