Visions Between A Decade! Poem by Gedion Onyango

Visions Between A Decade!

In my sleep,
I saw the sky ramble
the dark and the white clouds
violently torn apart
by a roaring lighting – then it went dead silent.
On the white clouds and blue sky
sat a glittering man in white robs
with his eyes closed
or meditating?
I laughed loudly at him for his pretense
then he drew closer,
Still sited on the clouds
or I grew taller?
he looked at me and called my names
“Behold” – he said
Look around you and tell me anything good!
The time is coming when many will suffer
and the world will be full of sorrow
People will die on the streets and no one will care
from north to south the fire will raze across
and cities and rulers will collapse
“Behold” – he wept
Tell everyone to be prayerful
and resentful to sins.
This is your mission!

Ten years later,
I found myself from nowhere
my soul has been floating over the universe seeing nothing
I found myself across the shores of an ocean – a sea
burnt and dark –
the burnt corpses of the whale rolled lifelessly
pushed to the shores of dried ocean,
now covered by black ashes
no wind – no light and far from me
the sky was dim and stripped yellow
but suddenly a mountain of water
came running violently from the land.
And I threw myself into the whirlwind hole in it
Maybe it left me at the shores
or dumped into the sea
Maybe alive
Maybe dead!
