Voices Poem by Desy Newbill

Voices

VOICES within are telling me
That I’ll always be
The outsider looking in
Yearning to fit in
Wishing for a special place
Leaving behind a trace
Of a permanent stain
The issues from the past
That the others cannot grasp
History cannot be unglued
What is done is done
My chances are through
They have come and gone
This is just who you are
So live with it
Be strong and move on

And YOU try to tell me
That everything is fine
That the problems I have
Are within my own mind
But tell me Dear
How is that being Ok
How do I just fix me
I cannot agree
I’ve been nothing but honest
With you
With them
And with me

So ill sleep it all away
In my world of make believe
Where I can be
Effortlessly happy
And ill dream
Of the things that are worth dreaming
And Ill please
The ones who are worth pleasing
I wont cry
I wont fear and feel anxiety
Ill just sing and dance in hilarity
Secure inside my dream
And I guess I should be thankful
That I am safe enough
To lie here by my lonesome
Warm and covered up
I’m safe here in my shadow
With or without their esteem
And beneath the dark ambiance
You will find me
Calm
Resting
And in peace
