Voted Into Wealth Poem by Adebayo Tajudeen

Voted Into Wealth

With belly of bribes
corruption as character
voter's welfare, on their tongue
not in their hearts
use and dump
dust and use when need arises
that's who we are to them
yet voted into wealth by you

A thumb for them
they smile to bank with bags
our ticks for them
makes their account thick
yet voted into wealth by you

They kneel to get your nod
from them, you die to get your right
best of car they transvers
while you vie to go in rickety buses
yet voted into wealth by you

They fly in air all times
you swim in floods
beyond our shores they go
to treat aches and pains
we visit empty morgue
called hospitals!
three years it takes
their children get foreign degrees
years of strikes trained
ours to hunt for jobs
yet voted into wealth by you

In their palaces no day or night
light shines away darkness
but in our common homes
we pay for darkness
what! No need to exclaim
why cry over spilled milk
after all the circle goes round
yet voted into wealth by you
